Local trivia nights increase in popularity

GAYLORD — Downtown Gaylord is no stranger to regular crowds filled with tourists and locals alike. Each venue offers its unique brand of entertainment year round. In such a competitive climate where decent crowds are essential, a couple of places are standing out from the crowd with their signature trivia nights.

The Iron Pig Smokehouse, 143 W. Main St. and Snowbelt Brewing Company 132 W. Main St. host very different trivia events at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday night, respectively. You don't have to be an expert to join in on the raucous reverie of these meetings of the mind. You can bring your team, come alone or watch the fun unfold.

The Iron Pig offers a “Family Feud-style” trivia game utilizing technology that spans the country. Teams of 3 to 4 players compete with up to 20 teams.

"There’s no wrong answer, just more points for the highest probable answer based on surveys," said Keri Murphy, co-owner of Iron Pig. "Plus we employ some cool technology with our Buzztime tablets, and a chance to compete against other guests across the country at any given time."

Prizes vary from gift cards to vendor-donated prizes. Brain-teasing games with a side of pulled pork sound like a great way to spend a Tuesday night so come through, sample the delicious menu and play to win.

The Snowbelt Brewing Company's trivia night takes an entirely different, but equally worthwhile approach. "The thing that sets [our trivia night] apart is we are very interactive!" Says Jordan Awrey Snowbelt's marketing director. "Every week I put in a ton of work coming up with fun questions that time into the time of year! We have a lot of passion behind Trivia! And of course, you get to drink locally handmade drinks." This trivia night boasts 4 rotating categories, and a new crop of questions every week. On Thursday nights is the best place to take your drinking team to play is definitely the Snowbelt Brewing Co.
